The Laggard’s Excuse

I was cleaning out the closet and found an unopened box. The box didn’t have any markings so I opened it up to find a beautiful book called Guidewords, an Anthology of Inspiration and Humor. I opened the book to a random page and this is the first thing that caught my eye. It is a wonderful poem about the fruits of hard work.

The Laggard’s Excuse

He worked by day
And toiled by night,
He gave up play
And some delight.
Dry books he read,
New things to learn.

And forged ahead,
Success to earn.

He plodded on
With faith and pluck,

And when he won
Men called it luck.
