The Difference

The Difference

Have you ever wondered what the differences are between people who seem happy and successful and those that seem to struggle through life? It is a personal subject of interest for me. I want to be as happy and successful as I can be and I want to help those around me achieve the same.

Most of my studies have covered popular books about psychology and personal motivation from some of the best known thought leaders on the subject. But the other night, I happen to hear a Radio broadcast of a poem called The Difference. I looked it up so I could share it with you.

The Difference

I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day;
I had so much to accomplish, I didn’t have time to pray.

Problems just tumbled about me and grew heavier with each task;
Why doesn’t God help me, I wondered; He answered, “You didn’t ask.”

I wanted to see joy and beauty, but the day toiled on, gray and bleak;
I wondered why God didn’t show me – He said, “But you didn’t seek.”

I tried to come into God’s presence; I used all my keys at the lock;
God gently and lovingly chided, “My child, you didn’t knock.”

I woke up early this morning and paused before entering the day;
I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray.

We are often told we need to take time “to sharpen our saw”, work on our skills and learn new techniques. This poem is a reminder that we need to sharpen our spiritual saw too.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Talk to you soon.
