Harland David Sanders, (September 9, 1890 – December 16, 1980) is best known as Colonel Sanders from Kentucky Fried Chicken. Success came late in life to Sanders. By the time Sanders was 40, he had held a long list of menial jobs. It was 1930 and Sanders was now running a small gas station in Corbin Kentucky. He started serving his customers cooked chicken dishes in his apartment connected to the gas station. Stories of his delicious chicken spread throughout the state and soon Sanders opened up a 142 seat restaurant. Necessity is the Mother of Invention PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 08 April 2011 11:47
The Greek author & philosopher, Plato is the person who coined the phrase; Necessity is the Mother of Invention. It means that difficult situations will inspire ingenious solutions. When people really need to do something, they will figure out a way to do it. You may feel as if you are in a desperate situation. You may feel as if you have a necessity that needs to be fulfilled. But do you have the inspiration, the motivation, and the passion to do something about your situation? How hard will you work to make your dreams come true? That is what makes all of the difference in the world.

Good News or Bad News PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 09 March 2011 00:00

Do you worry about things? Do you find yourself consumed with worry about things over which you have no control? Just remember "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof".  My mother used to say her Grandmother would tell her that when she would catch my mom worrying about something. So my mom started saying it to me.

Are You a Manager or a Leader? PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 09 March 2011 00:00

Are you a manager or a leader?

As a manager, you have two kinds of time. You have "management time" and "leadership time". Management time is the time you spend getting your sales people to do their work. Leadership time is the time you spend training and leading your sales team to new levels of success. When you are spending your time managing, that is time you can't use to teach and lead your sales team.

What Makes People Turn Out the Way They Do? PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 08 March 2011 00:00

On a recent flight I happened to overhear an interesting conversation between the flight attendant and a woman a few rows behind me.

The plane was a regional jet with one seat on the left side, the aisle and then two seats on the right side. It was completely sold out and the lone flight attendant was very busy getting everyone in their seats, checking for seat belts, closing overhead baggage compartments and helping to ensure that all of our tray tables were stowed and our seatback were in their upright and most uncomfortable positions.

Friday, 18 March 2011 00:00

You have a prospect you want to see. They represent a good opportunity because they are doing business with your competitors but not with you. Surely you could persuade them to do some business with you if only you could get an appointment to see them. Your product is clearly superior in performance and value but you can’t get in to see them. You’ve them sent letters. You’ve left voice mails. You’ve sent emails. You’ve even dropped by on occasion trying to catch them. But nothing has worked so far. Here is an idea that just might help you get through to that prospect and get that appointment.

Little Billy grew up on the family farm during the great Depression near Emporia Kansas. Billy’s family was struggling to survive just like most families at the time. Billy’s father wasn’t going to let his family starve on the farm so he made a gutsy move and bought a small struggling butter processing operation during the 1933 Bank Holiday Franklin Roosevelt ordered to stem a run on the banks.  Starting a business during a time of financial panic took courage.

What Kind of Radio Do You Drive PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 01 March 2011 05:25

My Radio was due for an oil change the other day so I took it into the dealership for some service. While I was waiting on the service department to work on my Radio, I walked through the showroom looking at all of the beautiful new Radios. There is nothing quite like the feeling you get when you sit behind the wheel of a brand new Radio for the very first time. It's so clean and shiny. The leather is soft to the touch. And the smell of a new Radio gets to me every time.
