If you want to be more effective in your advertising and marketing efforts, learning about the psychology of consumer behavior can be very helpful. Human behavior is influenced by our emotions, values, attitudes and ethics. Human behavior is shaped by our culture, upbringing and relationships. But consumer behavior is driven by needs. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs can be used as a basis for understanding why a consumer makes a decision to buy a product or a service.

Little Billy grew up on the family farm during the great Depression near Emporia Kansas. Billy’s family was struggling to survive just like most families at the time. Billy’s father wasn’t going to let his family starve on the farm so he made a gutsy move and bought a small struggling butter processing operation during the 1933 Bank Holiday Franklin Roosevelt ordered to stem a run on the banks.  Starting a business during a time of financial panic took courage.
